Obituary

Robert Chavis was born on Feb 2, 1932, in Bennettsville, South Carolina, to Carnel Chavis, Sr. and Florella McCall. He was part of a family of 10 children, including 2 sets of twins. His siblings - Carnel Jr, Jay, Bess, & Herbert (his twin), all predeceased him. Mamie & Minnie (twins), Rosalee, Alec, & Annabelle are left to mourn with us.
He moved to New York and enlisted in the Army to serve his country in the Korean War from 1953-1955.
He was Honorably Discharged & returned to NY, finding employment with Jamaica Manufacturing Co. (JAMECO INDUSTRIES), in Wyandanch, Long Island, as a supervisor of the manufacturing department.

He married & raised his families, while residing in Broolyn, NY. The name "HOLLYWOOD" came to be because of his flashy style of suits, boots, & cowboy hats--a real socialite who liked to party and have fun.
After working 18 years at JAMECO, Robert met his current wife, Zelda-Renee, in 1973. He relocated to Plainfield, NJ where they married in May,1980.

Of all his children, a beautiful blend of siblings came to be: Dee-Dee, Derrick, Rosalyn, Wayne, Robert, Herbert, Michelle, Marsha, Rachel, Russell, Robbie, Rodney, & Richard (Russell & Robbie have predeceased him).
Robert leaves to mourn 5 Siblings, 11 Children, 20 Grandchildren, a number of great-grands, & even a few great-great grands!!! Also a host of cousins (especially Betty Chavis Ball), nieces, nephews, & friends.

This man lived a full and exciting life! "HOLLYWOOD" was a force to be reckoned with and he lived his life the best he knew how. In spite of it all, good or bad, he loved his family immensely and was proud of where he came from. Knowing that his soul is resting peacefully with our Lord, gives us children the greatest peace and comfort.
Until we meet again, Robert, you will be sorely missed.
